MASE certification

The MASE (Business Safety Improvement Manual) is a management system framework for Health and Safety at Work and the environment. It is mainly intended for subcontractors carrying out their services on industrial sites with high levels of risk, in particular the Petrochemicals and French Chemicals sectors.

The objective of MASE helps subcontracting companies to:

  • Continuously improve Safety, Health at Work and the Environment (HSE) through an appropriate management system.

  • Improve their organization and communication; Improve the conditions for employee intervention.

  • Manage the risks associated with coactivity.

The MASE is made up of the framework, a description of the certification process, advice and a glossary.

The framework is a collection of requirements which allows the company to structure its HSE management approach based on 5 axes:

  1. COMMITMENT OF COMPANY MANAGEMENT Objective: Define the company's HSE management organization.

  2. PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Objective: To transmit to all employees the “knowledge”, the “know-how” and the “social skills” necessary to perform their job.

  3. ORGANIZATION OF WORK Objective: Control HSE risks when carrying out tasks, works or services.

  4. EFFECTIVENESS OF THE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM Objective: Evaluate the effectiveness of the management system.

  5. CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT Objective: Continuously improve the management system.

How to become MASE certified?

The MASE standard is designed to allow third-party certification, that is to say by an independent body. Obtaining MASE certification demonstrates to your partners your real involvement in the health, safety at work and environment approach and that the measures put in place in your organization have been assessed as compliant.

Most often, companies that engage in a MASE certification process are “invited” by their customers if they want to apply for certain markets or access their industrial sites.
